Clinical Supervision

At this time, Kelsey is accepting new supervisees.
In light of COVID-19, I am conducting all sessions over video until further notice.

Kelsey is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a psychotherapy privilege licensed in New York State offering individual clinical supervision to LMSWs looking to earn their clinical hours, and other mental health practitioners hoping to deepen their practice. Prior to New York State Office of the Professions removing the psychotherapy privilege, Kelsey offered psychodynamic supervision to LCSWs working to earn their R hours. She received her SIFI Certification (Seminar in Field Instruction) from NYU Silver School of Social Work and completed Clinical Supervision Certificate Training through the National Association of Social Workers.

Kelsey is contracted by The Trevor Project to provide clinical group supervision to the Crisis Workers currently serving on the lifeline, text line, and chat line in support of supporting queer and trans youth experiencing crisis and suicidality.

As a clinical supervisor, my goal is that together we will uncover who you are meant to be as a clinician, working collaboratively to elevate your voice and spirit in this work. With clinical experience in the foster care system, schools, group work, and individual psychotherapy, I will offer a range of strengths-based, trauma-informed, and systems perspectives.

I believe that in order to hold space for our clients, it is essential that we have space to explore what we bring to this work, how it impacts our lens, and how we can harness this understanding to enrich the clinical process. Fundamental to doing so is understanding our social locations (the aspects of our identity that are privileged or marginalized and how they interact with each other in different contexts to position us in society). I will encourage you to explore and understand these complex parts of your identity, as well as navigate any dynamics arising in the transference and countertransference.

My supervisory approach is largely informed by my relational psychodynamic training; experiences in organizing spaces; liberatory theory; and work with communities and individuals along the spectrums of sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression. Teachings from the following books and writers have been paramount in my development as a supervisor, clinician, scholar, and person:

  • Teaching to Transgress by bell hooks

  • The Drama of the Gifted Child by Alice Miller

  • Liberated to the Bone: Histories. Bodies. Futures by Susan Raffo

  • Care Work: Dreaming Disability Justice by Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha

  • The Autobiography of Malcolm X by Alex Haley and Malcolm X

  • The Care We Dream Of: Liberatory and Transformative Approaches to LGBTQ+ Health by Zena Sharman

  • Dibs in Search of Self by Virginia Axline

  • The Argonauts by Maggie Nelson

  • Are You My Mother? by Alison Bechdel

  • Sister Outsider by Audre Lorde

In our work together, I will review with you the situations and treatment of each of your clients, provide you with guidance, and support you in the creation and pursuit of your clinical and professional goals. I will offer a nonjudgmental space that welcomes mistakes, celebrates growth, supports improvisation, and prioritizes the development of trust and connection with your clients above all else. Please see my Psychology Today Profile to learn more about her therapeutic approach and areas of focus.
