Kelsey is currently a PhD candidate at Columbia University School of Social Work studying Advanced Practice under the mentorship of Dr. Elwin Wu, PhD. She is enrolled in the Teaching Development Program through the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), and has been rewarded the Teaching Assessment Fellowship (TAF)(2021-2022) and the Lead Teaching Fellowship (LTF)(2022-2023). Her research interests include: [Primary] Subverting social work education and practice through lenses of queer irreverence and mess: exploring how social work is taught and carried out in ways that position social workers as sites of social control within their own communities, as well as how this impacts the personhoods of the clinician and client, interrupts collective liberation by enforcing unidirectional healing, and stems from settler colonialism and white supremacy; [Secondary] Clinical practice with the expansiveness of queer and trans identity: non-normativity as a roadmap; Queering research through community-based participatory research: problematizing the professionalism of care practice within queer and trans suicidality and death.

Completed a two-year post-graduate training comprised of the following: Conducted weekly therapy with patients in the Adult Treatment and Psychotherapy Center for Gender and Sexuality programs. Received weekly individual and group psychodynamic clinical supervision, and enrolled in weekly clinical and theoretical coursework covering object relations, self-psychology, interpersonal & relational psychotherapy, and developmental psychology. Completed certification in Clinical Applications of the Polyvogal Theory for Trauma (2017).

In her third year, Kelsey was an Ubuntu Service-Learning Study Abroad Student through the University of Pretoria/Universiteit van Pretoria, in Pretoria, Guateng, South Africa. There she served as a UNA-SA Student Member (United Nations Association - South Africa), received certification in the SAVF Botswadi Parental Guidance Programme (Suid-Afrikaanse Vrouefederasie - 2013), and completed coursework in Child & Adult Developmental Psychology and Poverty & Community Development.
